The GAME research project in 2018 will focus on the possible effects of ocean warming on chemical communication processes in the sea. This includes foraging responses in predator-prey systems, habitat selection or conspecific recognition. We will concentrate on seafloor habitats in which macroinvertebrates, such as crustaceans and molluscs, but also macroalgae exhibit numerous chemical interactions. Although the focus is a chemical one, we will not do many analyses of this kind. Our approach will rather include choice experiments in which we will test whether the kind and speed of reactions to chemical cues changes with the thermal environment. We are now inviting Master’s students to participate in this study. If you want to be part of this project, please apply to the GAME coordinator at GEOMAR (if you are enrolled at a German University) or to one of our scientific partners. Application forms can be downloaded from our website: www.geomar.de/go/game. The project will start in March 2018.
