We analyzed the trans Pacific tsunami that was generated in the Pacific Ocean following the 1 April 2014 Iquique earthquake offshore Chile. The Iquique (Chile) earthquake moment magnitude was 8.2 and occurred at the depth of around 25 km. The earthquake killed at least 7 and left around 200 injured.
The resulting tsunami reached almost all coastlines within the Pacific Ocean; hence is called a trans-Pacific tsunami. We analyzed 20 DART gauge records of this tsunami and performed numerical simulations. The figure below shows the location of DARTs and tsunami wave heights at the location of each DART. The color map is the result of tsunami simulations.
