Meanwhile, at the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands

The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) is a multi-purpose service centre composed of a set of large infrastructures to support research, technology and innovation in the marine and maritime sector in the North-East Central-Atlantic Ocean.

The mission of the centre is to promote long-term observation and sustainability of the ocean. The research facilities include an inland centre (at the Taliarte Harbour), an offshore platform (under construction), a test site and observatory.

In less than a week, over 50 researchers are expected to arrive to PLOCAN, in Gran Canaria. As it couldn’t be any other way, we are working on every detail and looking forward to the landing of the researchers so the facilities are ready for them to start working on their KOSMOS 2014 GC experiment.

The researchers, who come mainly from different groups in Germany, will be carrying out their experiments on the PLOCAN laboratories. There also, they will have access to several meeting rooms, business, and conference rooms in order to satisfy the needs of the deskwork that a project like this one involves too.

For lunch, a catering is organized at the Restaurante Cofradía de Pescadores de Melenara, which is just at the Taliarte harbour, where the mesocosms are already being assembled.

Lots more are yet to be discovered in our mission to host these special guests on their KOSMOS 2014 GC experiment.

We will keep you up to date through this channel.

Now it is time to get ready for your trip; we are looking forward to give you a warm welcome in just a few days! And, although this year is being particularly rainy, 17°C is not that bad at all!
