This blog is for the research cruise Meteor M187 in the Southeast Atlantic Ocean. The major aim of the cruise is to investigate filaments of cold, nutrient-rich, upwelled seawater as they move offshore into the warmer waters of the South Atlantic subtropical gyre.
By examining how the chemistry and biology of these filaments evolve over time, we will learn much more about what sets up and maintains the broad scale biogeochemical transitions that are observed from the coast to offshore. The cruise will be highly multidisciplinary, encompassing physical, chemical and biological sampling using a range of different methodologies.
The cruise will take place in the period 25th January to 4th March 2023.
