Ankunft und Aufbau des AUV-Teams<\/p>\n

Um die n\u00f6tigen Vorbereitungen an Bord der Sonne zu treffen ist das AUV-Team bereits am 12.12. in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria angereist und hatte somit einen kleinen Vorsprung bei der Erkundung des Forschungsschiffes. Die zwei Tage Vorsprung galt es jedoch effizient zu nutzen, da die Aufgabenliste an Vorbereitungen sehr lang war. Zus\u00e4tzlich zu den normalen Installationsschritten des Equipments, wurden einige Wartungsarbeiten auf die Transitzeit verlegt, die aus zeitlichen Gr\u00fcnden in Kiel nicht mehr geschafft wurden.<\/p>\n

Angereist mit erstmalig drei Containern, mu\u00dften jene als erstes leer ger\u00e4umt und in die eingeteilten Labore verteilt werden, anschlie\u00dfend wurden weitere Arbeitsschritte geplant und man teilte sich bei der Installation der Kommunikationsanlage auf.
\nHierzu geh\u00f6ren f\u00fcr die Luft-\u00dcbertragung eine GPS-, WLAN- und eine Iridium Antenne und f\u00fcr die Unterwasserkommunikation ein Akustikschwinger, die mit langen Datenkabeln an verschiedenen Positionen auf dem Schiff installiert wurden.
\nNachdem die Kommunikationsanlage in Betrieb genommen und getestet wurde, galt es das Aussetzger\u00e4t (LARS \u2013 Launch And Recovery System) anzuschlie\u00dfen und zu \u00fcberpr\u00fcfen. Erfolgreich und somit erleichtert konnte am ersten Tag des Transits die Installation des Gesamtsystems abgeschlossen werden. Am Freitag erwartet das AUV seinen ersten Einsatz.<\/p>\n

Die restliche Zeit, einschlie\u00dflich dem heutigen Tag, werden dem AUV und seinen unterschiedlichen Systemen gewidmet. Aus zeitlichen Gr\u00fcnden konnten einige Wartungsarbeiten in Kiel nicht mehr abgeschlossen werden. Einige Sensoren insbesondere das Kamerasystem m\u00fcssen noch kalibriert und getestet werden. Die AUV-Techniker arbeiten unter Hochdruck um alle Sensoren zu \u00fcberpr\u00fcfen um im Falle eines Problems drauf reagieren zu k\u00f6nnen, damit zum ersten Tauchgang, alle Systeme bereit stehen.<\/p>\n

Arrival and installation of the AUV-System<\/p>\n

The AUV-Team arrived on the 12.12. in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria \u2013 earlier than the rest of the scientific party due to the complexity of and the long time required to install the AUV-System. The two day lead time, had to be used efficiently because we had a long To-Do-List! On top of the normal installation routine for the AUV-System we had maintenance tasks that we couldn\u2019t do at home in Kiel, so we shifted the maintenance tasks to the transit.<\/p>\n

The first step was to unpack the three containers in the grouped labs and establish our working places. Next we split into two groups and installed the communication systems; one group took responsibility for the air-communication system and the other team for the water-communication system. The air-system includes the GPS, WLAN and the Iridium-Antenna all installed in different positions on the ship. The water-system comprises an underwater acoustic-pinger, which is installed in a tube under the ship. Both systems have different positions on the ship, which are connected to the AUV-Container. After the communication system was operating, we installed the Launch and Recovery System (LARS) and tested it. Now we\u2019re happy that everything is working and the AUV-System is ready for the first deployment.<\/p>\n

The rest of the transit, including today, we will turn our attention to the many AUV sensors, because we couldn\u2019t test anything in Kiel. Some sensors need to be calibrated. If there is a problem, we have time to react on it and can maybe fix the problem. We are looking forward to our first dive and cross the fingers that everything is working fine.<\/p>\n
