Erlebnisse<\/strong>, Eindr\u00fccke<\/strong> und Erkenntnisse<\/strong>, die ich auf meinem Weg sammle!<\/p>\n Das kann im Grunde genommen alles M\u00f6gliche umfassen: Auslandsaufenthalte, Praktika, Konferenzen, usw. Das meiste werde ich in Englisch, und manches vielleicht auch mal in Deutsch verfassen, damit m\u00f6glichst viele Interessierte etwas davon mitnehmen k\u00f6nnen. Vielleicht ist es also f\u00fcr einzelne spannend davon zu lesen, weil ihr in einer \u00e4hnlichen Situation seid oder f\u00fcr andere einfach interessant den Weg einer frisch gebackenen Meeeresbiologie-Absolventin (sch\u00f6nen Gru\u00df an meine Familie an dieser Stelle) zu verfolgen.<\/p>\n Und warum?<\/strong><\/p>\n Weil ich Spa\u00df an Kommunikation<\/strong> habe und gerne manche Erfahrungen<\/strong> schriftlich festhalten und mit anderen Menschen – euch –\u00a0 teilen<\/strong> m\u00f6chte!<\/p>\n Auch wenn ich noch nicht genau wei\u00df, wohin es mich beruflich einmal verschlagen wird, habe ich nat\u00fcrlich trotzdem einige Ideen. Eine davon ist eben dieser Blog, der meiner Freude am Schreiben und der Faszination an Kommunikation entsprungen ist. Ich bin der \u00dcberzeugung, dass Worte und Sprache eine Menge bewegen und transportieren k\u00f6nnen und das dies vor allem im Bereich der Wissenschaft von enormer Bedeutung ist. \nDer Meeresspiegelanstieg ist hier durch die geographische Lage besonders stark zu sp\u00fcren und droht die einzigartige eigentliche S\u00fc\u00dfwasser-Landschaft der Everglades salziger werden zu lassen. Das k\u00f6nnte nicht nur viele einheimische Pflanzen- und Tierarten aussterben lassen, sondern auch die Grundwasserversorgung vieler umliegender urbaner Regionen, wie z.B. Miami gef\u00e4hrden. Wie weit sind solche Ver\u00e4nderungen bereits fortgeschritten? Was genau ver\u00e4ndert sich \u00fcberhaupt? Kann der nachweisliche Zuwachs von Mangrovenb\u00e4umen vielleicht etwas retten indem er dem Meerespiegelanstieg standh\u00e4lt? Und was f\u00fcr eine Rolle spielen menschliche Eingriffe in Form von Kanalbau und Trockenlegungen?
\nMit diesen zentralen Fragen besch\u00e4ftigt sich Sean Charles’ Projekt<\/a>, an dem ich mitarbeite.<\/p>\n

\nThis area is especially endangered by sea level-rise due to its geographical position. This unique landscape, originally dominated by mostly freshwater wetlands, is threatened to become more and more salty. This could not only cause the extinction of many native\u00a0 plants and animals species forming this wetland ecosystem, but it could also threaten the drinking water supply to surrounding urban regions, such as Miami.
\nHow much did this ecosystem already change? What exactly changes? May the substantial mangrove encroachment help to catch up with sea level-rise? And what role do anthropogenic perturbances like drainage and canal building play?
\nThose key questions are dealt by Sean Charles’ project<\/a> where I\u2019m participating in during my internship.<\/p>\n
