The traveling exhibition “Future Ocean Dialogue” will open officially at the historic Museu Naval in Rio de Janeiro this afternoon and starting tomorrow, July 8, be open to the public. The museum tells the history of Brazilian seafaring and has long planned to present a special exhibition on current issues in marine research.

The exhibition went by truck from Fortaleza to Rio. The trip took three and a half days and Bahia asked what “Future Ocean” is all about. Up till the very end it remained interesting to see whether and how the exhibition would make it onto the second floor of the museum – the stairs of the historically listed building are too narrow and there is no freight elevator. A crane was used to hoist the heavy modules and they were brought into the exhibition room by movers through windows that didn’t reach to the floor – it looked adventurous. Compliments to Christian, our local partner, and Jan from the company Salco Logistics for the excellent planning and organization as well as the complex set up phase!

Now we are eagerly awaiting the first impressions of the opening. Dr. Patricia Grasse from GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is representing the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” in Rio and will present the network. She is a researcher in the research group of Prof. Martin Frank on oxygen minimum zones and we are glad that they are also contributing a lot of content on the exhibition and can tell the museum guides more about the topics of the marine scientists in Kiel.

All the best for the opening from Kiel!

$(document).ready(function() {
/*
 * Simple image gallery. Die Wanderausstellung „Future Ocean Dialogue“ wird heute Nachmittag (local time) im traditionsreichen Museu Naval in Rio de Janeiro offiziell eröffnet und ab morgen, 8.Juli, für die Öffentlichkeit frei gegeben. Das Museum erzählt die Geschichte der brasilianischen Seefahrt und hatte schon lange vor, die aktuellen Themen der Meeresforschung in einer Sonderausstellung zu präsentieren.
