The plan was, to send the container by ship. But, in Brazil, nothing happens as expected. “I have some bad news, the next ship for Rio de Janeiro doesn’t leave until the 4th of July,” wrote Jan Krimphove of Salcologistics in Fortaleza. So, there was a lot of telephoning, re-planning and coordination necessary, particularly among our partners in Brazil. A few days later, the transport over land is organized and now nothing more strands in the way of a timely exhibition opening.

Parallel to these developments we discussed and came to an agreement about the opening ceremony. High-level representatives from the museum, but also representatives from the DIWH, DAAD, and Consulate will be there. We are very pleased about this. And from our side? The aim was to integrate our young researchers and after an email to the IMAP network of the Cluster of Excellence “The Future Ocean” there was also interest from that group. If all goes well, Patricia Grasse from the postdoc working group of Prof. Martin Frank at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel will travel to Rio to represent the Cluster and present a short keynote on their research area, which deals with oxygen minimum zones and examines the impact of climate change on algae and nutrient cycles. Their work compliments the content of our exhibition very well.

Now we are looking forward expectantly to the arrival of the exhibition in Rio.

—
