They’ll connect the computers. The rest of the group goes to the workshop, a two day event with German and Brazilian scientists, politicians and partners from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the DWIH (German Houses of Research and Innovation). We see many familiar faces from Kiel and introduce our guests. Especially for our guides, the workshop is a great opportunity to listen to scientific talks, to network and to be there when possible collaborations are being initiated. We also meet a professor from Natal, who is looking forward to the exhibition very much, has already arranged for exhibition space in Natal and has plans for the opening there. Natal will be our third station, provided that we survive station one.

At noon all of Dragao do Mar arrive, we set up the modules and explain them to the group. We have electricity and all – almost all – of the modules are up and running. People keep coming into the exhibition room, they are interested and curious. The highlight is the relief globe, which is eagerly turned around and around. The JAGO model is also very impressive. The exhibition looks great, the blue boxes are really an eye-catcher and the looks of the passersby indicate a lot of interest. In the afternoon everything is set up, but some of the modules are not running steadily. Current fluctuations, no current, different current – all is possible. Some of us use the time to show some of the guides how the modules work and how to set them up. Others are in the technology group trying to solve the electricity problems. Not easy. Speaking of our guides: We’re really lucky with our great Brazilian team! The guides are highly motivated and offered us a truly warm welcome. They’re really fully committed and keen to find solutions in order to finally get the exhibition up and running. And of course, communication with the people at the exhibition centre and generally understanding the Brazilian set of values is way easier thanks to their help. Even if they might not be reading this: Heartfelt thanks to all of you, you did a truly great job!

Meanwhile, Christian and Emanuel go on a search for replacement parts in various electric shops – the cultural center doesn’t have much of anything on hand – the others go home or to the hotel. We’ll see if all the modules run right for the opening, as long planned in Kiel.

Tired but still optimistic,
Friederike, Gerd and Emanuel

$(document).ready(function() {
/*
 * Simple image gallery. Rechner anschließen. Der Rest der Gruppe geht zum Workshop, der zwei Tage lang zwischen deutschen und brasilianischen Wissenschaftlern, Politikvertretern und Partnern vom DAAD und DIWH stattfindet. Wir treffen zahlreiche bekannte Gesichter aus Kiel und stellen unsere Gäste vor. Gerade für unsere Betreuer ist der Workshop eine großartige Gelegenheit, wissenschaftliche Inhalte zu hören, sich zu vernetzen und mit dabei zu sein, wenn mögliche Kooperationen angebahnt werden. Wir treffen auch eine Professorin aus Natal, die sich schon sehr auf die Ausstellung freut, bereits Räume organisiert und Pläne für die Eröffnung hat. Natal wird unsere dritte Station sein, vorausgesetzt wir überstehen Station 1.

German version: see below In the morning the technicians among us, especially Manu and Christian, our contact here, go on ahead to Dragao do Mar.
