\"Coastal<\/a><\/p>\n

Dramatic events from the recent past, such as the Sumatra Tsunami
\nin 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 or the earthquake and subsequent
\ntsunami in Japan 2011, have shown that the ocean holds diverse and
\nconcrete threats to densely populated coastal zones. The reconstruction
\nof different past, catastrophic events using geological and
\ngeophysical methods confirms the scientists\u2019 perception that coastal
\nzones have always been high-risk settlement areas.
\nThe summer school \u201cCoastal hazards\u201d aims to provide insights
\ninto modern strategies and scientific techniques. The five day course
\nwill be shaped by various international lecturers with acknowledged
\nexpertise in their field. The course is comprised of lectures and practical
\nwork in the laboratory and in the field. In addition participants will
\nreport about their current work.<\/p>\n
