{"id":99,"date":"2014-09-09T23:05:30","date_gmt":"2014-09-09T23:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oceanblogs.org\/being-a-young-marine-scientist\/?p=99"},"modified":"2014-09-26T13:04:56","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T13:04:56","slug":"first-day-on-the-ship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oceanblogs.org\/being-a-young-marine-scientist\/2014\/09\/09\/first-day-on-the-ship\/","title":{"rendered":"First day on the ship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We left Kaohsiung yesterday evening and arrived late in Anping harbor where our ship, the OR5 (Ocean Researcher vessel 5 from the Taiwan Ocean Research Institute, TORI), was waiting for us and welcoming us with firework.<\/p>\n<p>Ok, ok , I have to admit that the firework wasn&#8217;t for us but for the moon festival that Taiwanese celebrated during the weekend. It was so nice to see fireworks everywhere and see people eating barbecues in the streets. The tradition also wants you to eat pomelo and moon cakes (Ya-Nung, keep me some for October!)<\/p>\n<p><em>Nous avons quitt\u00e9 la ville de Kaohsiung hier en fin de journ\u00e9e et sommes arriv\u00e9s dans le port d&#8217;Anping <em>en fin de soir\u00e9e. Not<\/em>re navire de recherche, l&#8217;OR5 (Ocean Researcher 5 de l&#8217;Institut de Recherche Ta\u00efwanais TORI) nous attendait d\u00e9j\u00e0 ; nous accueillant avec des feux d&#8217;artifices !<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Bon, d&#8217;accord, j&#8217;avoue&#8230; Les feux d&#8217;artifices n&#8217;\u00e9taient pas pour nous mais avaient lieu en raison du &#8221; festival de la lune &#8221; que les ta\u00efwanais c\u00e9l\u00e9braient ce weekend. C&#8217;\u00e9tait magnifique \u00e0 voir ! Des feux d&#8217;artifices partout dans les rues et tout le monde se retrouvait dehors autour d&#8217;un barbecue ! Our second task was to check all the batteries that we will put in the releasers (connection between the OBS and the anchor of the OBS station) later on and check that the later ones were working properly.<\/p>\n<p><em>Notre premi\u00e8re t\u00e2che consistait donc \u00e0 installer l&#8217;antenne GPS (Global Positioning System) afin d&#8217;obtenir les informations concernant l&#8217;heure et la position du bateau durant l&#8217;acquisition des donn\u00e9es. This dinner gave us the opportunity to know more our Taiwanese colleagues who are really nice and friendly. And for me, it was also my first official Chinese lecture! I can now write numbers up to ten and some few words such as &#8220;person&#8221;, &#8220;mountain&#8221;, &#8220;tree&#8221;, &#8220;fruit&#8221;, &#8220;water&#8221; and, one that can be useful &#8220;exit&#8221;. Impressive isn&#8217;t it?! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><em>Apr\u00e8s cela, nous sommes all\u00e9s en ville d\u00e9couvrir de nouvelles sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s chinoises et profiter de notre derni\u00e8re nuit &#8221; \u00e0 terre &#8221; (entre guillemets car nous dormons d\u00e9j\u00e0 sur le bateau depuis hier). Ce d\u00eener nous a ainsi donn\u00e9 l&#8217;occasion de mieux conna\u00eetre nos coll\u00e8gues ta\u00efwanais\u00a0 qui sont vraiment tr\u00e8s sympathiques et amicaux ! Il s&#8217;agissait, l\u00e0, \u00e9galement pour moi de mon premier cours de chinois ! Je peux d\u00e9sormais \u00e9crire les chiffres jusque dix et quelques mots comme &#8220;personne&#8221;, &#8220;montagne&#8221;, &#8220;arbre&#8221;, &#8220;fruit&#8221;, &#8220;eau&#8221; et un autre qui peut \u00eatre utile &#8220;sortie&#8221;.
