Photo: Gor Margayan<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After months of preparation, we are finally on our way! 12 scientific crew including experienced researchers and students, and 12 permanent crew members on board of research vessel Alkor, on a cruise to the deep basins of the Baltic.<\/p>\n<p>The objective: continue a long-term data series of oceanographic parameters, foodweb characteristics, and information on the Baltic big three commercial fish species, cod, herring and sprat.<\/p>\n<p>Over the two weeks of our cruise, we will post information about life and work on board of a research vessel, report on scientific observations, and introduce you to some of the tools of the trade of marine biologists at sea.<\/p>\n<p>As a starter, the first two photos were taken soon leaving the GEOMAR pier this morning &#8211; a goodbye to Kiel Fjord, and the obligatory safety instruction that takes place at the start of each cruise.<\/p>\n<p>Greetings from Kiel Bight,<\/p>\n<p>The scientific crew of AL454<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After months of preparation, we are finally on our way! 12 scientific crew including experienced researchers and students, and 12 permanent crew members on board of research vessel Alkor, on a cruise to the deep basins of the Baltic.
