From Sunday to Wednesday 22 marine scientist met at the University of Cape Town in South Africa to prepare for the M133 Expedition. The participants are from South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, France and Germany and mostly at the Master or PhD level.

Most of us met for the first time and enjoyed the hospitality of out South African colleagues who joined our evenings and participated with lectures and informal coffee break meetings. We heard short presentations about the key science objectives of the SACROSS M133 expeditions, learned which instruments will be used and what expertise each participant brings.

Our backgrounds range from physical, chemical, biological and geological oceanography to policy and immunology. In addition we have two high school seniors in our team, who have been competitively selected.
We all are very excited about the upcoming expedition and for more than half of the participants it is the first time on a large ocean going research vessel.
